Steve de Klerk | Captain
Steve was born in South Africa and fell in love with boating when he got involved in local sailboat regattas. He was fortunate to have met JJ Provoyuer, who had raced Single-handedly around the World in the then British Open Challenge (BOC) and through him was taught a lot and offered the opportunity to circumnavigate a 47′ Sloop back in 1998. 5 young guys set sail from Cape Town on a voyage of a lifetime, participating in regattas like Antigua Race week, (we won our class) and Kenwood Cup in Hawaii. Exchange rate fluctuations changed the program’s plan and Steve found himself in Newport, RI, where he immersed himself in the rich NE Sailing culture. As life would have it, he met and married a NC gal who introduced him to Wrightsville Beach. NC.
He tried settling down with a land-based career and gave it his best shot, but after they separated, 9 yrs later, he wandered back to the ocean and made the transition to Motoryacht’s and has never looked back.
In a professional capacity, Steve has been Captaining a variety of vessels, both Motor and Sail Boats, charter and private in the 90 to 115-foot range all up and down the US East Coast from as far North as Northern Maine and south to the Keys. He has also spent lots of time in the Bahamas as well as the USV and BVI’s not to mention a plethora of Caribbean islands he has visited too.
Steve has always received excellent charter guest reviews and goes out of his way to ensure that his guests get the best experience possible that he tailors around their favorite activities. He does his best to say “Yes” to every guest request possible.
With Steve’s true love for the North East and the Bahamas, you can rest assured that a trip on this vessel will be one to be remembered.
Brandon Reid – First Mate
Brandon grew up in a shoreline town in Connecticut. His home backed up to marshland with creek access to Long Island Sound in very close proximity to Cedar Island Marina where we are docked all summer long. He also spent his summers on a lake in New Hampshire, where he enjoyed all water related activities and sports, fishing as often as he could, and he continues to do so today. He has always had adventure in mind and between these coastal waters and the mountains of New England, he found the perfect lifestyle for himself. With this passion driving him, he pursued several jobs on and around the water starting at a young age in the boat yards of New England.
This eventually led to him running and working on larger cruising yachts. Although he grew up knowing the waters of the Northeast very well, he saw how much more was to be discovered beyond this shoreline, and how yachting could do just that for him. In his twenties he accrued experience cruising up and down the Eastern Seaboard, through the Bahamas, and spent a season in the Gulf of Mexico. Brandon has always had a spirit for fun, adventure and making memories. From his days of swimming and diving, to water sports and fishing he is always out to make it a timeless memory worthwhile.
Given the choice, he would rather be active and outside than anywhere else. He has always held a polite, friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating rapport with guests and owners alike. He is confident and passionate about his work and continuously strives to make each guest’s experience aboard his vessel memorable in every way possible.
